¡Inmensamente agradecidos!
In August of 2002, Melba Martinez RN, inspired by her recent experience as breast cancer survivor, founded LUNA with only 5 breast cancer survivors. LUNA held meetings at Saint Joseph Hospital in Tampa for several years. Melba’s vision was to provide support and education for Latin breast cancer survivors. Since LUNA’s inception, we have had a tremendous response from service providers and cancer survivors who were looking for comfort and support, to gain strength from others like themselves. While the support group began with a focus on breast cancer over the years women and men newly diagnosed with other types of cancer have joined and participated in the support groups and related activities/events. Over the years, we have partnered with, and are grateful for the support received from H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, TBCCN (Tampa Bay Community Cancer Network), Bay Care Health System (St. Joseph Cancer Institute and Morton Plant Hospital-CaPSS: Cancer Patients Support, and Susan G. Komen Foundation.
